‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’
Or so said Gandhi, way ahead of his time if you ask me. I think that we’re treating this planet and the things on it like crap. Most of us can’t change overnight as it takes time to unravel the unsustainable lifestyle that we take for granted.
It’s all linked however. If we buy food from the supermarket, a lot of it is shipped from halfway around the world. Some of it is gassed and stored for months in cool rooms because we’ve lost touch of what’s seasonal produce and expect the same things year-round.
Ultimately, this goes on because oil is far, far too cheap despite taking millions of years for earth to produce in such extremely limited quantities. Oil should be as expensive as gold, and then perhaps we would treat it with the respect it deserves and not have our whole population relying on it to produce something as basic and fundamental as the food we eat.
It’s about time we break this dependancy.
